So, the end is nigh, as Venom: The Last Dance marks the final outing for Tom Hardy as lovable duo Eddie Brock and the extraterrestrial symbiote known as Venom. The first reactions to Venom 3 are now in, so does the movie bring the pair’s journey to a satisfying end? Or is the sequel another disappointing installment in the largely ill-judged Sony Spider-Man Universe? Let’s find out…
Screen Rant’s Joseph Deckelmeier declares that the third Venom is nothing less than “a wild and exhilarating journey from start to finish!” and the best kind of “popcorn movie.” Which is no doubt exactly what fans of the Sony franchise were hoping for.
“#VenomTheLastDance takes you on a wild and exhilarating journey from start to finish! It’s a fun popcorn movie that reminds me of the early 2000’s comic book movies. The action is great & is a tribute to action films from the 80’s. There’s a ton of funny moments. Are there plot holes and some issues with the story? Yes. It’s it fun? Also, yes.”
Ian Sandwell of Digital Spy calls Venom 3 the best in the trilogy, which wonderfully centers on the relationship between best buds Eddie Brock and his symbiote pal.
“Venom: The Last Dance is the most entertaining of the trilogy. It’s largely a funny and sweet road trip with Eddie and Venom living their Thelma & Louise fugitive dreams, including car karaoke and dog rescuing. You might even find yourself getting emotional. #VenomTheLastDance”
Josh Wilding echoes many of these sentiments, calling the sequel “the most cinematic” and “monumental” outing in the comic book movie series.
“I’ve seen #VenomTheLastDance and it’s the most cinematic, monumental #Venom movie to date. Eddie Brock and Venom’s dynamic is at its strongest in this one and the stakes are so much higher. I had a LOT of fun with this one…the final act is BONKERS!”
Highlighting the “fun” again is Simon Thompson, who calls Venom: The Last Dance “kooky” and “crazy” but still brimming with action.
“#VenomTheLastDance sees Tom Hardy go all in for a fun finale befitting the franchise. With stacks of set pieces ranging from kooky to crazy, this doesn’t hold back with the Venomenal action. Take it for what it is. Grab some popcorn and go with the flow of this raging road movie.”
Not Everyone Loves the Kooky Adventures in Venom 3
On the negative side of the critical spectrum falls Sean O’Connell of Cinema Blend who, while calling the latest Venom outing “the best of the three,” still feels the movie was “incredibly bad” and a waste of potential.
“I think #VenomTheLastDance is the best of the three, while still being incredibly bad. It’s bizarre, and watchable, because it’s willing to try anything. Symbiote fish? Sure. Mrs. Chen dance sequence? Why not. I laughed a few times, but this trilogy accomplished very little. Sigh”
Dragging things back over to the more positive side of things, Chris Killian describes Venom: The Last Dance as “classic guilty pleasure cinema.” Which, if you’ve seen the previous two movies, should come as little surprise.
“Venom The Last Dance is a whacky buddy roadtrip that stretches its PG-13 rating as far as it will possibly go. Simply put – Venom 3 is classic guilty pleasure cinema. Turn your brains off and let #Venom snack on ‘em.”
Finally, Drew Taylor of The Wrap also declares Venom: The Last Dance the “best” in the franchise, with the Sony/Marvel outing brimming with both insanity and heart.
“#VenomTheLastDance is the best of the “Venom” movies — the insanity has been ramped up significantly but so has the heart. It’s not perfect but it’s super entertaining and there’s a giant monster that chews people up and sprays blood out of the back of its head. Pretty nuts.”
