Dream Theater performed their first concert with drummer Mike Portnoy in 14 years on Sunday night at the O2 Arena in London, United Kingdom.
Portnoy helped start the band in 1985 along with John Petrucci and John Myung. He played on 10 albums over two decades before leaving the group in 2010, and rejoined the lineup last year.
The London show marked the beginning of Dream Theater’s 40th-anniversary tour, which will run through 2024 and 2025. The tour, called ‘An Evening With Dream Theater,’ will travel through Europe until November 24.
The 2025 dates will arrive in February along with a new album, ‘Parasomnia.’ The first single from the record, ‘Night Terror,’ came out earlier this month with a Mike Leonard-directed music video.
The song received generally positive reviews in its first week, and Portnoy thanked fans for it on Instagram: “Incredible! Almost 2 million views on YouTube in under a week. Thank you all for the overwhelming response to ‘Night Terror…’ it’s been great reading the comments, watching the reaction videos and covers, etc. The excitement is palpable! Cannot wait to share the rest of the album with you all in February.”
The new album ‘Parasomnia,’ set for release on February 7 through Inside Out Music, is the first album featuring Portnoy since 2009’s ‘Black Clouds & Silver Linings’ and is produced by Petrucci.
