After The Penguin episode 4 took audiences by surprise and revealed the tragic past of Sofia Falcone (Cristin Milioti), the beloved HBO series has arrived at the midpoint of its eight-episode season. To celebrate the occasion, the network has released a brand-new trailer that teases the rest of the episodes coming out this year. Of course, if you haven’t watched the past four episodes of The Penguin, beware of major spoilers from here on out.
HBO released the “Mid-Season” trailer for The Penguin a few days before episode 5 arrives on Sunday. The footage features Oz Cobb (Colin Farrell) reeling from the events of the third episode, when the Maroni family caught on to him and Sofia, revealing his latest act of betrayal to the former Falcone. Oz and Vic (Rhenzy Feliz) are now forced to leave the main streets of Gotham for the poor neighborhood of Crown Point, where Penguin’s young apprentice originally resided with his deceased family. It’s the area that was most affected by Riddler’s bombing of the sea wall, deemed by citizens as “No Man’s Land.”
Meanwhile, Sofia Falcone is on what is sure to be a bloody path to vengeance against Penguin after he killed her brother in the opening episode. Left with the remains of the Falcone empire, she seems to be intent on exhausting all resources to kill Oz and take over the Gotham underworld. The result may be catastrophic, as the explosive trailer teases major devastation in Gotham City, revealing the Penguin wandering amidst smoke and rubble at one point.
What’s Next for The Penguin
The fourth episode of The Penguin left Sofia Falcone in the driver’s seat to take over the Falcone family business. In a shocking twist, the series killed off every Falcone except for Sofia, and her young cousin Gia. This leaves the gang war at a turning point, with Salvatore Maroni (Clancy Brown) and his family now in a position to make a move. It’s unclear how exactly Penguin and Vic will get themselves out of this one, but it’s safe to say they’ll need some help to do so. Is a truce in play for one of the remaining families? Not that anyone has a good reason to trust Oz, of course.

Oz Cobb and Sofia Falcone have a complicated relationship in The Penguin, but Craig Zobel likens it to one of the best Hollywood genres.
Although it was relatively easy to root for Oz as an underdog at the beginning of The Penguin, it’s become increasingly hard to do so. Not only was he instrumental in putting Sofia in Arkham Asylum, but he has betrayed everyone he’s come across without fail. Except for Vic, for now at least. Whether the audience likes it or not, Oz is on a road that only leads to more darkness and people getting hurt. During an interview with Live95 Limerick, Colin Farrell teased that viewers would only see things get worse from here on out.
“I would be surprised if anyone liked him by the end of eight (…) By the time I finished the eighth episode, just reading it, I was knackered, and I just thought, ‘Oh Jesus, this is awful dark.'”
