Anderson, and will expand the complex sci-fi world that director Denis Villeneuve has brought to the big screen with such success in 2021’s Dune and this year’s Dune: Part Two. The filmmaker behind the modern Dune revival confirms the script for Dune Messiah is underway.
Alison Schapker, who is best known for such hit shows as Lost and Westworld, is on board as showrunner, executive producer, and co-developer of the series, with executive producers for the Frank Herbert estate including Brian Herbert, Byron Merritt and Kim Herbert. The series is co-produced by HBO and Legendary Television. Dune: Prophecy showrunner Alison Schapker has teased where the series will find the two Harkonnen sisters, and how they evolve from wanting to “restore” their noble house to becoming dedicated to “the Sisterhood above all.”
“We get to see how it all started. When we meet Valya Harkonnen, she is a girl whose family has experienced a tremendous fall from power and has lost its noble status. She dreams of restoring what she feels is rightfully theirs. How she goes from being someone obsessed with rebuilding her noble house to being someone who is dedicated to the Sisterhood above all is a big part of the story. It’s not a girlhood coming-of-age narrative so much as a woman’s rise to power from a Harkonnen perspective.”
