It’s been seven long years since Mark Duplass and Patrick Brice gave us the sequel to their critically acclaimed 2014 found-footage film Creep, but the duo are finally back together to deliver The Creep Tapes, a six-episode anthology series that delves even deeper into the unhinged mind of Josef. Set to debut exclusively on Shudder and AMC+, the show sees Duplass reprise his role from the films, luring six new videographers into filming his deranged actions. Each entry will tell a different tale to expand the franchise lore even further, with the first two episodes premiering on November 15, and the remaining four following weekly.
The new trailer released yesterday (seen below) previews what fans can expect from The Creep Tapes, and starts by showcasing the unsuspecting victims before cutting to Josef – whose name is ever-changing – and all the different personas he takes on over the course of the series. We get some close-up shots of Peachfuzz, a lot of screaming, and by the end, the squelching sounds of a knife being driven over and over again into someone trapped in the trunk of a car before Duplass emerges with blood all over his face. With Brice back in the director’s chair, the series looks to be a lot of fun, and one that the EVP of Streaming for AMC Networks, Courtney Thomasma, says the company is excited to bring to life.
“Patrick and Mark have given us two of the most unique and exciting takes on psychological horror with Creep and Creep 2, both of which amassed a huge fan following and camp audience. We’re thrilled to be working alongside them in expanding this popular franchise with six thrilling episodes that will unfold more of this twisted story and Peachfuzz antics.”
Shudder is the Perfect Home for The Creep Tapes
Known as the premier destination for horror for nearly a decade, it makes sense that Duplass and Brice are debuting The Creep Tapes on Shudder. The streaming service has given fans some of the best programming the genre has to offer, including original shows like Creepshow, the docuseries’ Cursed Films and The 101 Scariest Horror Movie Moments of All Time, and original films like the upcoming MadS (October 18), and the recently released gems Oddity and V/H/S/Beyond.
Despite being owned by AMC Networks, there’s always been sort of an indie vibe to Shudder that feels a little rough around the edges, which further speaks to their decision to air The Creep Tapes, seeing as how the low budget franchise itself has always felt much the same way thanks to its found footage nature. When you combine the two entities, you know you’re going to get something special that will surely satiate the rabid fanbase that Duplass and Brice have built over the years, which will hopefully lead to more from their franchise in the future.
