Ray Nicholson is bring a little of his famous father to Smile 2, even if it isn’t intentional. The latest poster of the hyped-up horror sequel has seen many fans asking if Jack Nicholson has undergone de-aging to appear in the new film, as the younger Nicholson does seem to be giving off some strong “shining” vibes in the new promotional piece.
Having Jack Nicholson as your father is naturally a little intimidating, but for Ray, his legendary dad has been a great inspiration and is his “hero.” Speaking to Deadline at the premiere of Smile 2, Ray Nicholson responded to comments about his poster appearance seeming to channel a bit of Jack Torrance, saying:
“We’re very different people. I was born in 1992, he was born in 1937. The things that affect me don’t necessarily affect him. Obviously, I love him. He’s my inspiration. I ate dinner with him every night. I studied it, that’s how I learned to be a human being. So, of course we’re gonna be kind of similar.”
However, the younger Nicholson may look up to his dad, but that doesn’t mean he has necessarily been getting tips from him on how to navigate around the industry. He added:
“As far as talking about it, if he ever did tell me something, I probably wouldn’t investigate it for myself because I’d be like, ‘You’re the best, of course, that’s right,’ and it might not work for me. I love him. He’s also my hero. I’m the luckiest kid in the world.”
What is Smile 2 About?
In 2022, Smile became one of the most unnerving horror movies of the year, and certainly captured the attention of audiences thanks to its ingenious marketing campaign. This saw paid actors turning up unannounced in real venues and starting to smile at people in a very disconcerting way. The movie ended its theatrical run at $217 million on a savvy $17 million budget, and the climax of the story left the door wide open for a sequel.
Now Smile 2 is upping the ante, with lead Naomi Scott becoming the latest victim of the demonic entity that loves to make people grin just before they die in a terrible way. Scott plays pop star Skye Riley, who finds herself at the center of a horrifying curse as she is about to launch a world tour. While attempting to stay alive and preserve her sanity, Riley is forced to face her past and attempt to beat the demon before it claims her as its next possession.
