Harrison Ford doesn’t buy into the idea that there are no more movie stars being crerated in Hollywood. Having worked in the movie industry for the past six decades, Ford clearly shows no interest in slowing down. The Star Wars actor is set to make his debut in the MCU, taking over the role of Thaddeus Ross in the upcoming Captain America: Brave New World. Throughout his career, he has starred in several hit movies, such as The Fugitive, Air Force One, and more recently, Apple TV+’s Shrinking series.
Ford is undeniably a movie star, and some believe he’s the last of a dying breed. When asked by GQ what he thinks about Hollywood no longer producing movie stars, he called it “rubbish,” and defended the industry by saying there are good actors rising to the top each day.
“Oh, I think it’s rubbish. I don’t think the question is whether or not there are any movie stars. There’s wonderful actors coming up every day. Whether or not they become movie stars is really not the point. If movies need stars, they will find them. I’ve never f**king understood being a movie star. I’m an actor. I tell stories. I’m part of a group of people who work together, collaborate on telling stories. I’m an assistant storyteller. That’s what I am.”
Timothee Chalamet, Florence Pugh, Zendaya, and Austin Butler, just to name a few, have all risen to become instantly recognizable in recent years, and, along with several others, have led some highly successful movies. While the days of an old-school movie star might be over, there are still undoubtedly stars that help draw in an audience to a movie – the teaming of Glen Powell and Sydney Sweeney in the practically written-off comedy Anyone But You is a case in point.
Who Does Harrison Ford Play in the MCU?
Ford is stepping into the shoes of Thaddeus Ross, replacing William Hurt who played the role from 2008’s The Incredible Hulk to 2021’s Black Widow, and sadly passed away in 2022. It is no secret that Ford’s character transforms into the Red Hulk in the upcoming Captain America: Brave New World, and has previously spoken about how it was fun to hulk out. What’s not clear is the direction the MCU plans to take that character and if he’ll appear in future MCU films. Ford is 82 years old, so he’s not a spring chicken by any means, and it’s unlikely he’d take on a grueling schedule of multiple movies. However, with Red Hulk being a CGI-character, Ford’s next step in the MCU will likely depend on whether Ross remains as his Hulk alter-ego, similar to Mark Ruffalo having spent an extended time as Smart Hulk in the last several years.

Who even knew there was a Red Hulk? Not some of these MCU fans.
Following his Brave New World debut, it is unclear where the character of Thaddeus Ross could turn up next. The character has always been more associated with the less fantastical side of Marvel’s output, in movies like Captain America: Civil War, but he has also made appearances in several Avengers movies too. Currently, there is a question over whether he will make an appearance as part of next year’s Thunderbolts* – as in Marvel Comics the group is named after Ross. Where else he may appear – in either human form or his Hulk counterpart – is something that right now only Kevin Feige seems likely to know.
