The fourth installment of Marvel’s Spider-Man reboot starring Tom Holland is officially in the works, and fans are already clamoring to know if another reunion with previous web-slingers Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield will feature in the film. Although the MCU is notoriously tight-lipped when it comes to giving away spoilers, Garfield still managed to stir the pot in a recent podcast episode, telling fans that assumptions about his return were not necessarily unfounded.
Filming for Spider-Man 4 isn’t slated to begin until May 2025 — putting the project’s release date at somewhere in 2026 — but the movie is still making waves as fans look forward to the possibility of seeing Garfield and/or Maguire don the Spidey suit once more. Sitting down with The Happy Sad Confused podcast, Garfield addressed the rumors of his return to the MCU, but failed to offer a straight answer about the topic either way. When asked by podcast host Josh Horowitz if a reunion was indeed on the table, Garfield responded cryptically:
“Yeah, of course your assumption is not unfounded. If I was in your position, I can imagine going, ‘Yeah, he’s probably had some conversations,’ too.”
For fans who are eagerly anticipating another Spidey showdown, it seems like Garfield isn’t outright denying the possibility — but he’s not saying that it’s a guarantee, either. In short, you’re going to have to wait and find out. However, Garfield has said in the past that he’d be open to reprising his Spider-Man role if Marvel extended the offer. He’s also expressed his nostalgia and love for the character, speaking fondly about his time as Spider-Man whenever the topic is brought up.
I’ve loved Spider-Man since I was three years old. I was in the gym a lot. I ate soup and berries. I trained at parkour and yoga. I helped with the script. I need to nourish that child who is out there watching.
Will Andrew Garfield Return in Spider-Man 4?
Garfield’s return to the Spider-Man universe largely depends on Marvel’s plans for the multiverse and, ultimately, for the trajectory of the franchise as a whole. The multiverse has been a resounding success, despite the confusion it has caused for fans who tend to dip in and out of the franchise. Deadpool & Wolverine is a hugely popular movie that was only made possibly through the creation of the multiverse. Spider-Man: No Way Home — the film that first initiated a reunion between the Spider-Men — was also a massive box office hit, suggesting that Marvel could profit even more from continuing to take advantage of the multiverse.

Even if Garfield doesn’t appear in Spider-Man 4, his role in Spider-Man: No Way Home has led to an unexpected renaissance for The Amazing Spider-Man franchise. Although somewhat ill-received upon their debut, Garfield’s films are being rediscovered by MCU fans — and earning heartwarmingly rave reviews, especially for Garfield’s performance. With as much love as Garfield has for the role, it’s difficult to watch those films sink to the bottom of many fans’ Spider-Man rankings, and this transformation of public opinion is as timely as it is deserved. Garfield’s Spider-Man, you were truly amazing.
