A little over a decade ago, horror fans were introduced to James Wan’s The Conjuring, and it would be the start of an epic journey into the supernatural that has seen eight films in total thus far, with three of those focusing on ghost hunters Ed and Lorraine Warren, who are expertly portrayed by Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga. Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end, and in 2025 The Conjuring: Last Rites will be the finale of the main franchise, and Wan recently took to social media to mark what he calls the “end of an era.”
Posting on his Instagram account, Wan shared a behind-the-scenes photo which simply shows two director’s chairs with the names Ed Warren and Lorraine Warren on each. The famed demonologist and clairvoyant may have been the subject of much controversy over the years, with many calling into question the validity of their methods, but this is Hollywood, and in the movies, none of that matters. What does matter is that The Conjuring: Last Rites will be an epic conclusion that sees Wilson and Farmiga give it their all one last time in what has been one of the most successful horror franchises ever made. Check out Wan’s photo and caption below, which is almost enough to bring a tear to your eye, knowing that this is the end of the road for the Warrens.
What’s Happening With The Conjuring TV Series?
First announced in April 2023 as a spin-off exclusively being made for Max, there’s been little detail given of the impending small screen series that Wan is set to produce with Peter Safran, who is the co-chairperson and co-CEO of DC Studios alongside James Gunn. As such, there hasn’t been much in the way of updates other than that we know it will be set after the events in the main franchise, meaning it’s still a ways off considering The Conjuring: Last Rites doesn’t hit theaters until September 5, 2025.
We at least know the series is still on everyone’s radar thanks to Casey Bloys, chairperson and CEO of HBO and Max content, who revealed back in June that the project is still active. When asked by Variety what the streaming platform had on the go, he said, “There are other properties like The Conjuring, which is a big movie franchise that we’re developing into a series, as well as Crazy Rich Asians. We’re developing in DC, the Green Lantern property, as a series as well.” Of those three projects he mentioned, the Green Lantern one has seen the most movement, with Lanterns recently casting Kyle Chandler as Hal Jordan, and Aaron Pierre as John Stewart.

How to Watch The Conjuring Universe in Order
With nine movies in total and more coming out, here’s how to watch The Conjuring Universe in order by release date and chronology.
Still, it’s nice to know that The Conjuring appears to still be moving forward, though when we’ll get any casting updates remains to be seen. Wan is busy not only producing the final film in the main franchise, but also having his hands in M3GAN 2.0, Mortal Kombat 2, an alien sitcom similar to The Office, a reboot of The Munsters, and possibly a reimagining of The Creature from the Black Lagoon. Needless to say, he’s got a lot on his plate, but here’s hoping we’ll get more news on The Conjuring TV series in the coming months.
