James Hetfield promised that Metallica will focus on building a legacy through their new material instead of relying only on their older hits.
The frontman shared his thoughts on the band’s evolving journey during an appearance on the ‘Metallica Report’ podcast. He was there to talk about the M72 World Tour, which supports their latest album, ‘72 Seasons.’
He reassured fans that they will keep releasing new material in the future, sharing, “The fact that the ‘72 Seasons’ album is well received and some of the songs that we’re playing live work and they kind of fit seamlessly in with all the catalog, all the albums we have.”
“We know people want to hear the best of, and you’ve got to challenge them to listen to some of the new stuff as well. We certainly don’t want to be a legacy band that just plays its greatest hits and then that’s it.”
‘72 Seasons’ arrived last year to positive reviews. It scored highly on websites like Metacritic and AllMusic and reached the top of several charts around the world, including the Billboard 200 and the UK Rock & Metal Albums chart.
The 2024 part of the album’s supporting tour wrapped up in Mexico City this September. Metallica plans to continue touring in 2025 with more dates lined up.
The band will be back on the road starting with a show in Las Vegas on April 12, 2025. Their 21-date tour will end on June 29 in Denver, with stops in cities like Landover, Atlanta, Tampa, and Houston along the way.
