Mike Portnoy named Blood Incantation’s latest release ‘Absolute Elsewhere’ as his Album of the Year in a recent Instagram post.
He captioned the album cover that featured the pyramids and planets in a space-like setting, “Holy F*ck! Bravo, Blood Incantation on the incredible new album ‘Absolute Elsewhere!’ The brutality of Opeth meets the beauty of Pink Floyd…all in one Epic Prog Metal album (just two 20 min epics!) Definitely a contender for my AOTY! (PS – Greatest Logo Ever!)”
‘Absolute Elsewhere’ came out on October 4 and gained critical acclaim, especially in the UK. It peaked at No. 3 on the UK Rock & Metal Albums chart and reached No. 15 on the UK Album Downloads chart.
Singer and guitarist Paul Riedl commented on the new record, “‘Absolute Elsewhere’ is our most potent audial extract/musical trip yet; like the soundtrack to a Herzog-style sci-fi epic about the history of/battle for human consciousness itself, via a ’70s prog album played by a ’90s death metal band from the future.”
The first of two 20-minute tracks in ‘Absolute Elsewhere’ arrived as a single in September along with a short film directed by Michael Ragen. Arthur Rizk produced the album which was recorded last year at Hansa Tonstudio in Berlin with contributions from Thorsten Quaeschning of Tangerine Dream.
Blood Incantation will support the new release with a tour starting on November 7 in Portland, OR, and will continue touring through the end of the year.
