Dream Theater dropped new album teasers on X but didn’t share Mike Portnoy’s yet.
“Nocturnal trial by fire…,” the band wrote along with a video of bassist John Myung. “Swimming through waves…,” they said while sharing John Petrucci’s video. “Drifting through sleep transition…,” they added with Jordan Rudess.
The band also posted a short teaser with James LaBrie, writing the caption, “Vanishing at sunrise…” The band’s last album ‘A View from the Top of the World’ arrived in 2021.
On the other hand, their latest record with Portnoy was 2009’s ‘Black Clouds & Silver Linings.’ Fans are eager to see the teaser with the drummer. Then, they expect the band to release their first single from the upcoming album.
“I think everybody’s gonna love this [new album],” Rudess told Lots Of Muzik in August. “I can pretty much guarantee it. We don’t mess around. We’re not people who take what we do lightly. We’re really serious.”
The keyboardist continued, “We stay there and we work on things until they’re absolutely right and until everybody thinks that, ‘Okay, this is really great.’ So I have a feeling that all the Dream Theater fans around the world, they’re in for a really big treat.”
“If I’m being honest, I think it picks up right where ‘Black Clouds’ left off, to be honest,” Portnoy also said of the album. “There’s a certain style that the five of us have when we write together. And if you listen to the album with this lineup from 1999, ‘[Metropolis Pt. 2:] Scenes From A Memory,’ through 2009’s ‘Black Clouds & Silver Linings,’ if you look at that string of five or six albums, that’s the sound and style of these five people.”
The drummer added, “So I think that’s a good indication of what you can expect with the new Dream Theater album. It definitely sounds like classic Dream Theater.”
Dream Theater finished writing their new album in April, but there’s no release date yet. They’re getting ready for their 40th-anniversary tour. It will kick off on October 20 at The O2 Arena in London.
