If something is a teeth-staining food or drink, chances are I probably love it. Coffee? I have at least one if not two medium iced lattes per day. Tomato sauce? I’m Italian, so it’s a given. Chocolate? It’s my vice.
So when someone recently asked me how I whiten my teeth, I knew my Crest 3D Whitestrips were working. Bonus: They have more than 68,000 perfect ratings on Amazon and are currently $16 off during October Prime Day.
Crest 3D Whitestrips Professional Effects, $30 with Prime
In all transparency, they saw me right after I just finished a different pack from the brand. But ever since I moved on to the Crest 3D Whitestrips Professional Effects, which I got last Prime Day, my teeth are whiter and brighter than before.
Each strip is made with hydrogen peroxide. When used daily, they will deliver results that you would get if you had an in-person treatment at the dentist. They also have a “no-slip grip,” according to the brand, which I’ve found stays glued in place, even more so when you put them on dry teeth. (When I give my teeth a good wipe before application, the strips do not move.)
The strips need to be worn for 45 minutes, while the four freebie express treatments that come in the box need to be worn for one hour. Applying them takes a lot less time, though. Just peel them off the packaging, line them up with your teeth and gums, and stick them on.
There’s likely going to be extra material that needs to be folded over the back of your teeth. But I like to bend the rules a tiny bit, so I cut each strip in half lengthwise. This doubles the number of strips, from 40 up to 80, which is the maximum amount of treatments you should do per year. I’ve also noticed that when I only use half a strip, my teeth are significantly less sensitive afterward. Just make sure to count how many treatments you’ve done — I’ve lost track before.
Something else the box won’t tell you? Make sure you finish drinking water or eating before starting a whitening session. It doesn’t say that you can’t do either of those things with the strips on, but I don’t see how you could. It’s also probably not a good idea to voluntarily swallow whitening chemicals.
It’s also not difficult to talk while the strips are applied, but it doesn’t necessarily feel like you don’t have them on your teeth, so that’s something else to consider when blocking teeth whitening time on your calendar.
