Stand-up comedian Ray Romano has much to celebrate: His daughter, Ally, tied the knot with Zachary Wilezol on September 21, 2024, at the New York Public Library. The newlyweds invited 254 guests to join them for the occasion, bringing their theme of “old-world Italian garden” to life with local flowers, a moody color palette, and a three-course dinner from Acquolina. (The actor previously announced his daughter’s engagement on a taping of Live with Kelly and Mark in April 2023.)
A previous wedding inspired the bride to host her own nuptials at the historic location. “I had actually seen some photos of a wedding in the library and was wowed by how gorgeous the building is,” she told People exclusively. “It was the first venue we saw, and although we went looking at a few others, we knew it was the one immediately.” And while she said the couple initially wanted a smaller wedding—of no more than 100 people—they soon found themselves increasing the number of invitations to over 250.
Working with their planner, Marcy Blum, they designed the ceremony space to resemble a “formal garden,” while the reception area mimicked the look and feel of an Italian garden courtyard, according to People. At the start of the nuptials, the actor walked his eldest child down the aisle. Putting a twist on a classic look, the bride wore an off-white duchesse satin skirt and top by Dana Harel from Mark Ingram. She paired her ceremony look with Jimmy Choo shoes. “I actually didn’t go for it at first,” she told People. “But once I tried it on, with this amazing veil that was adorned with peach flowers and green leaves, I knew it was the one.” She also included a piece of her mother’s wedding dress in her bouquet.
After the couple said “I do,” they headed into cocktail hour, which featured two raw bars, before migrating into their reception space. In a nod to the theme, a three-course dinner featured Italian cuisine, including a porcini mushroom lasagna and a coffee-marinated short rib and branzino, according to People. For dessert, the newlyweds cut into a three-tier wedding cake decorated with fruit blossoms—but the sweets didn’t stop there. Trays of cookies were set out for guests to snack on as they danced, and the celebration featured an array of Entenmann’s cakes and pastries. For the reception, the bride slipped into a vintage John Galliano dress with custom sneakers. “I’m a sneaks gal, so Zack and I wore customized Air Force 1s with our initials stitched on the back of each heel,” she told People. “I had pink stitching and laces, and Zack’s were black.”
Drawing on his years acting and doing comedy, the bride’s father gave a speech during the reception. “The toast was funny and heartfelt with spot-on comedic timing, as one would expect,” Blum told People. However, the night wasn’t complete without a few unique surprises for the newlyweds’ guests. Continuing the celebration of their city, the couple set up a hot dog truck—and gave guest flowers wrapped in New York Times newspapers.
