Following the shock news that the SyFy and USA Network Chuckyseries has been canceled and will not return for a Season 4, star Fiona Dourif has now offered hope to fans that the killer doll will be resurrected once again in the future. During a recent appearance at Terror Con (via luischaveztv), Dourif, who starred in the series as Nica Pierce and played her father Brad Dourif’s role of Charles Lee Ray in flashbacks, revealed that Chucky creator Don Mancini now plans to take the series to other networks with the hopes of continuing the horror saga.
“I have been on the phone Don [Mancini]…so it was a surprise that we got canceled, it was released last night. And at this point, what we’re hoping to do, and what should be done, it would be normal for a show as successful as
Chucky
has been, because the ratings were solidly good and reviewed extremely well…the numbers were great on Peacock, that it would be marketed to other networks. And so, to the extent that there could be pressure on the powers that be to have that happen, I think that everybody who is involved in making the show would appreciate that and there’s no reason on earth why it shouldn’t be marketed.”
Created by Don Mancini and based on the Child’s Play film franchise, the Chucky series serves as a sequel to the seventh outing in the movie series, Cult of Chucky. Franchise staple Brad Dourif came out of retirement to reprise his role as the voice of the titular character, with the likes of Zackary Arthur, Björgvin Arnarson, Alyvia Alyn Lind, Fiona Dourif, and Jennifer Tilly, making up the rest of the cast.
The Chucky series has been hugely well-received by both critics and fans alike, and while many had been awaiting a cancelation announcement, it has come as a shock nonetheless, with Don Mancini saying he is “heartbroken over the news that ‘Chucky’ won’t be coming back for a fourth season, but am so grateful for the killer three years we did have.”
The Cast React to the Cancellation of Chucky
The cast have also since reacted to the disappointing news, with Jennifer Tilly, who reprized her role as Chucky’s lover and partner in crime Tiffany Valentine in the series, taking to X/Twitter to thank the fans for their loyalty and also offer hope for the future.
“So sad to announce that after three wonderful seasons the television series Chucky has finally been canceled. First, I’d like to think [sic] our fans, who managed to keep the #RenewChucky hashtag trending for MONTHS! Without your loyalty and tenacity Chucky would never have endured for 30 years!
We’re really proud of our show,” she said. It has been a wonderful miracle working with this talented cast and crew. We were very lucky to have the leadership of our brilliant captain [creator] Don Mancini. But (to quote Call of Duty) we are ‘down but not out.’ Resurrections are Chucky’s specialties and he has many of them!”
Tilly went on to compare the cancelation of the little doll that could so close to Halloween as “canceling Santa at Christmas.” A sentiment that’s hard to disagree with.
Chucky star Devon Sawa has also reacted to the news with hope, taking to X to declare that “CHUCKY NEVER ENDS!! … He just respawns.”
“I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again, this series was some of the most fun I’ve ever had shooting. I’m sad, but excited to see where it goes. RIP — “The Series”.”
So, while the fans mourn the loss of Chucky on Peacock, it sounds like even cancelation will struggle to keep the horror icon down and out for long.
