The 1993 action movie classic, Demolition Man, is due to be released on 4K UHD just in time for Christmas. The new release of the sci-fi action outing will reportedly be available from December 10 in the U.S. and December 9 in the U.K., courtesy of Arrow, according to X/Twitter user Dawn of The Discs. Starring action movie icons Sylvester Stallone and Wesley Snipes, this tale of a cop from the past who finds himself tracking a familiar criminal in the future has achieved newfound popularity thanks to how much the present-day world seems to be aligning with the movie’s vision of tomorrow.

Released way back in 1993, Demolition Man was directed by Marco Brambilla in his directorial debut. The movie tells the story of two men: an evil crime lord and a risk-taking police officer. Cryogenically frozen in 1996, they are both reanimated in 2032 to find mainstream society changed, and all crime seemingly eliminated…until now. Starring Sylvester Stallone and Wesley Snipes as the superbly named characters John Spartan and Simon Pheonix, respectively, the rest of the cast includes Sandra Bullock, Nigel Hawthorne, Benjamin Bratt, and Denis Leary.
Are We Ever Going To See Demolition Man 2?
While Demolition Man tells a perfect one-and-done story, you can’t keep a good sequel down, and Sylvester Stallone revealed in 2020 that discussions regarding a follow-up are now underway. During a Q&A session, Stallone revealed that the project is now in the works. Of course, we’ve sadly heard nothing since.
“I think it is coming. We’re working on it right now with Warner Brothers and it’s looking fantastic, so that should come out. That’s going to happen.”
Demolition Man has now achieved the kind of cult status that movies dream of, and there is no doubt that both the 4K UHD release and any potential sequel (which surely has to be titled Demolition Man: Rise of the Phoenix and bring back Snipes, who recently reprized another of his most beloved roles in Deadpool & Wolverine, back as the super-criminal Simon Phoenix through cloning) would be met with much applause from action movie fans everywhere.
