Charlie Day becomes Wolverine in a new piece of fan art that throws an unexpected contender into the ring. The cinematic depiction of Wolverine has been synonymous with Hugh Jackman as the face of the character. However, with Deadpool & Wolverine officially bringing Logan and other X-Men into the MCU, questions have arisen about the character’s future. While Jackman reprised his role in Wolverine’s introduction, the character’s longevity will eventually require the actor to pass the mantle to the next generation. More mutants in the MCU will soon be commonplace, and naturally, fans are taking the opportunity to ponder the possibilities of what could be.
Traditional choices for actors who could play MCU’s Wolverine typically include Henry Cavill, who made a cameo in Deadpool & Wolverine, Scott Eastwood, and even Daniel Radcliffe. However, one name that may not have been on anyone’s initial shortlist may be making his way into the conversation. A recent fan art upload on X showcases Charlie Day, known for his It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia role, donning Wolverine’s signature claws, giving a new take on the mutant. The fan art can be seen below, featuring what appears to be the comedic actor posing in an X-Men fighting stance.
Despite Day being the most unexpected candidate to enter the MCU in as vital of a role as Wolverine, it appears as if the majority of fans are rallying behind the idea. The fan art inspired several fans of the franchise to take to social media and give their glowing endorsement of Day’s possible previously implausible Marvel run. One fan tweeted, “I’m not kidding. never thought of this, but I’m for this idea!” Another fan, shocked about how believable he seemed in the role, wrote, “his is so scary and real it made me gaslight myself into thinking that charlie played wolverine in the original xmen movies.”
While the fan casting of Charlie Day appears to be a hit on social media, it may be a pipe dream of another actor stepping into the legendary role. Rumor has it Wolverine isn’t in the MCU reboot of the X-Men, and Jackman is allegedly a crucial reason behind that decision. Jackman is staying put for the foreseeable future, and given the box-office success of Deadpool & Wolverine, that’s an intelligent business decision on behalf of Marvel.
