Marvel Studios released the trailer for Thunderbolts*, and some fans have noted that the movie looks to be answering a seven-year-old Marvel question. In 2017’s Spider-Man: Homecoming, it was revealed that Tony Stark had sold Avengers Tower since the team was operating out of their new upstate facility introduced at the end of 2015’s Avengers: Age of Ultron. Since Spider-Man: Homecoming, fans have speculated who bought Avengers Towers, particularly after it was teased in Spider-Man: Far From Home. Fan speculation ranged from the Kingpin to the MCU Norman Osborn, and even the new Baxter Building for Marvel’s first family before Fantastic Four: First Steps was confirmed as being set in another universe.
X user BJET points out that the Thunderbolts* trailers seem to confirm that audiences will see Avengers Tower. It includes the team confronting Valentina Allegra de Fontaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) in the tower with the skyline being the same southeast view from the MetLife Building, where the Avengers Tower, formerly Stark Tower, originally stood. The reveal of Thunderbolts* featuring the former superhero building was previously reported by audiences in attendance at Marvel’s Hall H panel at 2024’s San Diego Comic-Con, as we outlined previously here. With the footage now available to everyone, more audiences can verify the information. See BJET’s original post below:
All MCU Secrets Will Be Revealed in 2025
2025 is the year Marvel Studios will be answering long-dormant fan questions. Captain America: Brave New World will answer what is happening with the remains of Tiamut sticking out of the Indian Ocean, which has been puzzling certain fans since Eternals in 2021. It will also bring Tim Blake Nelson back to the MCU as The Leader, nearly seventeen years after being teased in The Incredible Hulk in 2008. With Thunderbolts* now confirming the status of Avengers Tower, it is safe to say that while it may take the MCU some time to answer questions, eventually, all will be revealed.
While Thunderbolts* seemingly reveals Avengers Tower’s status in the MCU, it has now raised more questions. While Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, or Val for short, seemingly purchased Avengers Tower, what exactly does she have planned for it? Many fans assumed the Thunderbolts* would be assembled as a new team of government-sanctioned heroes, but the trailer confirms they are a team brought together and united in the fact that they were all set up to die. They would not be operating in Avengers Tower like a normal superhero team, so Val’s intentions for the building remain unclear. In the comics, The Sentry had his base, Watchtower, set up above the Avengers’ mansion, which seemingly was invisible after the world forgot about him, so with Lewis Pullman playing The Sentry in Thunderbolts* a similar revelation might be coming to the MCU.
Thunderbolts*
opens in theaters on May 2, 2025.
