Netflix looks to continue its action movie hot streak with the upcoming martial arts epic, Uprising, with a new trailer teasing a bloody tale of two childhood friends turned adversaries during the Korean Joseon dynasty. If that short summary is not already enough to pique your interest, perhaps the fact that the writer and director behind the 2003 revenge classic Oldboy, Park Chan-wook, is on board as a co-writer and producer will.
You can check out the trailer and synopsis for Uprising below.
“In the Joseon Dynasty, two friends who grew up together — one the master and one the servant — reunite post-war as enemies on opposing sides.”

Cheon Yeong, a slave renowned for his skills in martial arts, and Jong Ryeo, a martial arts master from one a hugely influential military bloodline, do battle in breathtaking fight sequences against the backdrop of war.
Directed by Kim Sang-man (Girl Scout, Midnight FM), Uprising stars Gang Dong-won (Broker, Peninsula) as Cheon-yeonng, Park Jeong-min (Decision to Leave, Time to Hunt) as Jong-ryeo, Cha Seung-won (Night in Paradise, Believer) as King Seonjo, Kim Shin-rock (Hellbound, Sweet Home) as Beom-dong, Jin Sun-kyu (Space Sweepers, Extreme Job) as Ja-ryeong, and Jung Sung-il (The Glory, Bad and Crazy) as Genshin.

Netflix Is on an Action Movie Hot Streak
Netflix is on something of a hot streak when it comes to action movies, with the streaming giant finding huge success with the recent release of the action thriller Rebel Ridge. Written and directed by Jeremy Saulnier, Rebel Ridge stars Aaron Pierre, Don Johnson, AnnaSophia Robb, David Denman, Emory Cohen, Steve Zissis, Zsane Jhe, Dana Lee, and James Cromwell, and follows a former Marine who finds himself up against a corrupt local police force after they unjustly seize the money he needs to post his cousin’s bail. Boasting a movie star-making performance from Aaron Pierre, Rebel Ridge has been met with widespread critical acclaim, and currently stands at 96% on the review aggregator site Rotten Tomatoes.
But, if it is more brutal and bloody action that you’re after, then look no further than the upcoming action flick The Shadow Strays. Written and directed by Timo Tjahjanto, the filmmaker behind the acclaimed Indonesian action thriller The Night Comes for Us, and starring Aurora Ribero, Hana Malasan, Ali Fikry, Adipati Dolken, and Andri Mashadi, The Shadow Strays promises all the assassins, violence, and revenge that you could possibly want from an action movie extravaganza.
Rebel Ridge is now available to stream on Netflix, while The Shadow Strays is due to land on the streaming platform on October 17.
