Pantera bassist Rex Brown thinks people should give their music another listen.
Ever since their reunion, Pantera received hateful comments for playing without their original members. A few members have already talked about it, and now Rex Brown chimed in with his take on the matter.
In a recent chat with American Musical Supply, Rex Brown talked about the band getting back together and the chance to make new music:
“We’re not doing this for ourselves; we’re doing it for the name and the brand Pantera. And by God, this music needs to be heard again. It does. It needed to for a long f*cking time. And that’s what we’re here doing tonight… It’s just wonderful to be able to do this and pay homage to my music, the riffs that I wrote, or the riffs that Dime wrote, or the patterns that Vinnie played, and for what Phil came up with — tremendous impact on this music.”
Charlie Benante Thinks Naysayers Should Shut Up
Some older fans have been hating on the new members for not sounding exactly like their two late members. As a result, Benante slammed the naysayers. During another chat with Heavy, the drummer explained what’s more important for their shows:
“It’s more important to — again, like I said a little while ago about hearing these songs again… Some of these people who were negative at the at the start of this whole thing, my whole thing was just, please shut up for a minute and just wait. If you don’t wanna come, don’t come. But if you do wanna come, and just come and then witness it, and then afterwards you can say, ‘F*ck this. This was horrible.’ But that hasn’t happened. A lot of people are so positive about it and they enjoy it.”
Is New Music Coming Anytime Soon?
The members have different opinions on releasing new music as Pantera, but Rex Brown already gave the green light. In another interview, Brown said he is open to making new music, but ‘can’t say much about it’ for now:
“Oh, absolutely. Yeah, I could tell you more but I’m not going to.”
Rather than discussing new music, he focused on live shows and younger fans:
“We’re pinching ourselves over these new fans that have never seen this before, and it’s a whole another generation that we either didn’t know a) that were out there, b) that were still listening to us, and the turnout has just been unbelievable. Of course, at first you had the naysayers and all that stuff, and as we played gig by gig, it’s made us tighter. And I’ve been trying to rehearse this band as much as I can within schedules, and we’ll just go down for no f*cking reason and just jam. That’s what makes a band tight.”
Although the bassist was positive about new music, Wylde says the opposite. During a previous interview, the guitarist discussed playing the parts Dimebag Darrell wrote years ago and mentioned new music. Apparently, it’s out of the question for now.
The drummer seems to have concerns about fan expectations. He is also aware that some fans might not take it well that Pantera is back on the road for new music without Dimebag Darrell and Vinnie Paul.
However, Wylde did say that they would release new songs under a different name.
So it’s more likely that the lineup can release new music under a different name than Pantera.
