Peacock’s insanely fun AI drama Mrs. Davis won fans over and further sent Betty Gilpin’s (GLOW) celebrity soaring higher. The series, in a ridiculous snub, was nominated for just one Emmy (for Outstanding Sound Editing for a Limited Or Anthology Series, Movie Or Special), and lost to the Netflix drama Ripley. During a recent interview with MovieWeb to chat up her upcoming Starz drama, Three Women, we asked Gilpin if she knew Mrs. Davis was going to be categorized as a limited series before Peacock changed the show’s Emmy category from Drama to Limited/Anthology Series.
While she didn’t reveal if she knew about the switch, she was candid about whether she’d ever return to the show, noting:
“
Oh, I would do 10 seasons of that show. I’m so sad about it, honestly. I’m just heartbroken. It was the best job ever
. And you know, [costar] Jake McDorman and I still text each other ideas for scenes, like, ideas for additional takes that we filmed now two years ago. Like, ‘
What if we tried this? Oh, we can’t. It’s just over.
’ It was just the most joyful, special experience.”
As for any future possibilities for another round of the marvelous Mrs. Davis, which shot up to one of Peacock’s most-watched new outings — it also nabbed a 92% score on Rotten Tomatoes — Gilpin was optimistic.
I’d like to do a Season 2. And I’ll do it on a streaming service for Tampax or Chips Ahoy. I don’t care.
Betty Gilpin’s New Role Is a Head-Turner
Betty Gilpin fans will get another opportunity to appreciate the actress’ work in Three Women, which hits Starz September 13. The series, based on the bestseller of the same name by Lisa Taddeo, who serves as creator/showrunner for the streaming version, is dubbed, “an intimate, haunting portrayal of female desire that finds three women on a crash course to radically overturn their lives.”
Indeed it is. Gilpin plays Lina, a suburban Indiana homemaker who’s braving a decade marker into a passionless marriage. Suddenly, she embarks on an affair that all too quickly transforms every aspect of her life. It’s one of Gilpin’s most compelling performances, offering a stunning array of depth and emotion. The series also features DeWanda Wise (Jurassic World Dominion, She’s Gotta Have It) as a savvy entrepreneur whose open marriage is tested when two sexy strangers threaten her idyllic love story.
Meanwhile, Gabrielle Creevy (In My Skin) portrays a North Dakota student who accuses her married English teacher of an inappropriate relationship. Shailene Woodley (Big Little Lies) morphs into the role of Gia, a writer grieving the loss of her family, who invites the three women to share their personal stories with her. The character is based on Taddeo, who embarked on a cross-country journey to chronicle the lives of women. Blair Underwood (Longlegs) also stars. You can catch Three Women on Starz beginning September 13. Watch the trailer below.
