The Lincoln Lawyer is an engaging legal drama that centers around Mickey Haller, a defense attorney who works out of his Lincoln Navigator. While Mickey is an expert at navigating the complexities of the legal world on his own, the series has highlighted several supporting characters and their invaluable roles in his personal and professional lives. Particularly impactful has been the formidable criminal prosecutor Andrea Freeman, played by Yaya DaCosta.
In a recent interview with TVLine, The Lincoln Lawyer showrunner Ted Humphrey confirmed that Yaya DaCosta will be reprising her role as Andrea Freeman in Season 3. Humphrey also teased that the return might see her in a different capacity this time around.
“Andrea Freeman [played by actor Yaya DaCosta] will be returning in Season 3. We loved the dynamic between her and Mickey as well, and she will play a very significant role – though in a somewhat different capacity than Season 2.”
DaCosta made her debut as Andrea Freeman in the second season of The Lincoln Lawyer. A brilliant and ambitious prosecutor who has eyes running for D.A. in the future, she was determined to prove the guilt of chef Lisa Trammell in the murder of a real estate agent and presented a very strong case to prove the same, which put her at odds with Mickey Haller. Her fierce courtroom battles with Mickey were a highlight of the season and added new layers of intrigue to the show.
What Does This Mean For Mickey and Andrea’s Future?
Andrea and Mickey’s relationship in Season 2 of The Lincoln Lawyer was marked by intense courtroom confrontations. But as they butted heads over the complex Trammell case, they shared a palpable tension that was hard to ignore. Their professional rivalry spilled over into personal interactions, creating a dynamic that was fascinating. Clearly, it left fans wondering if the adversaries could ever be more.
In a first-look photo from the upcoming season, it’s apparent that the chemistry between Andrea and Mickey will be a focal point. When asked about it, the showrunners remained tight-lipped for the most part but suggested fans to “keep watching” to find out. Co-showrunner Dailyn Rodriguez also teased in an interview with TV Insider that viewers can expect “more of a flirtation, a friendship, and a mutual respect” in Season 3. Beyond her shifting dynamic with Mickey, Andrea’s personal struggles will also be dealt with in the future, which will highlight her as a fiercely independent and committed character.
“She doesn’t lose cases and doesn’t screw up. What happens to somebody that’s so sure of themselves and strives for perfection when something disrupts that? How do they deal with it?”
The Lincoln Lawyer Season 3 will adapt Michael Connelly’s novel, The Gods of Guilt, and see Mickey taking on the case of Julian La Cosse (played by Devon Graye), who is accused of killing his friend, Glory Days (played by Fiona Rene). Alongside Yaya DaCosta and Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, The Lincoln Lawyer stars Jazz Raycole as Izzy, Becki Newton as Lorna, and Angus Sampson as Cisco,
