Taylor Swift’s gingham dress is about to cause a racket in your fall closet — in other words, it’ll make some noise, but in the best way possible.
During a break from the Eras Tour and a Sunday sans any Kansas City Chiefs football, Swift and her boyfriend, Travis Kelce, had an overload of cute moments at the US Open, which they attended on September 8. While Kelce went with a Gucci hat and coordinating polo shirt, Swift rallied in a $248 spaghetti-strap dress from Reformation, a brand we already knew she was a fan of.
But rather than “plaid shirt days” as she says in the 10-minute version of her song “All Too Well,” she presented us with another fall pattern, and it’s one that Reese Witherspoon wears: gingham. It also was very similar to the one on Jennifer Garner’s plaid shirt, as well as checkered patterns.
Gingham Dresses Inspired by Taylor Swift
Reformation Sora Linen Dress
Swift put her spin on the Reformation Sora Linen Dress: Rather than wear it with the straps dangling off-the-shoulder, as it was designed, she kept the straps up, making it even more fall-friendly — there’s just something about an off-the-shoulder dress that feels not quite right for colder days. With straps, you have, at least, a little more protection against the cold.
The versatile red and white pattern could next be worn to a Chiefs game or a holiday party and is basically the fall equivalent to a floral print in the summer. Which, speaking of, is something Jennifer Aniston repped multiple times from the brand this past summer.
Chouyato Smocked Dress
A longer length is important if you plan to wear a dress for any outdoor festivities. The chest area here is smocked (as was the back of Swift’s dress) and “eliminates the necessity for a bra,” according to one shopper. Oh, and if you get it in blue, it works as a Halloween costume, too. Just pop on some red shoes and you can say you’re Dorothy from The Wizard of Oz. But what’s more, the next day, you can wear it like normal again.
Calvin Klein Gingham Print Gauze Dress with Puff Sleeve
We’ve already covered that Witherspoon is good for gingham, but she’s also a puff sleeve fanatic. Plus, having a little extra warmth on your shoulders this time of year isn’t exactly a bad thing. The V-neck is also less confining than a turtleneck, but with a thick red scarf (wink wink) you’ll stay covered in the cold. It’s 42 percent off now and comes in sizes 2 to 12.
