Netflix has released the trailer for the long awaited season 2 of Arcane. Based on characters from the online multiplayer game, League of Legends, Arcane expands on the lore and origin stories of the game’s heroes: Vi (Hailee Steinfeld) Jinx (Ella Purnell), Caitlyn (Katie Leung), Ekko (Reed Shannon), and more. The Emmy award-winning series returns to Netflix in November.
The new season will be picking up right after the Season 1 cliffhanger, ending with Jinx’s attack on Piltover council. War is here, and battle lines are being drawn. The surface city seeks retribution for the presumed death of the entire council, while the underground city of Zaun is rising with Jinx as a symbol of resistance.
The trailer is still keeping some secrets. For example, if any characters are alive after the Season 1 finale, or if we’ll see any previously passed characters again. Jason Spisak, the voice actor for Silco, revealed that his character will be returning in some way for Season 2, but not in the way you think. Some fans praised the visuals and animation in the trailer, calling them more dynamic, vibrant, and even perfection. Season 1 premiered in November 2021. While there was sometime between Season 1 and now, the improvement in the already exceptional art may prove that good things come to those who wait.
In the trailer, Jinx says she wants “To watch it all burn,” and it looks like she’s not alone. We see her likeness all over the walls of the Undercity as the civil war erupts, with some looking to Jinx as the anchor to rally behind. Jinx’s new role as the symbol of revolution in Zaun is noticeably analagous to Vander’s role as unspoken leader and protector of the Undercity as seen in Season 1. Will she be fully un-tethered, as some viewers may expect, or more calculated in her campaign against Topside?
The season’s first original soundtrack single for Arcane Season 2, ‘Paint The Town Blue’ by Ashnikko, can be heard throughout the trailer. Along with the new trailer, promos have been popping up globally with #PaintTheTownBlue generating the Jinx blue spray paint on landmarks like the Eiffel Tower in Paris and the Marina Bay Sands in Singapore.
This season will be the final chapter for Arcane. With a perfect 100% critics score and 96% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, Arcane is one of the highest rated video game adaptations. Fans eagerly hope for news of more spinoffs. Series co-creator Christian Linke previously confirmed that more stories are on the way in the future. His statement read:
Arcane is just the beginning of our larger storytelling journey and partnership with the wonderful animation studio that is Fortiche. From the very beginning, since we started working on this project, we had a very specific ending in mind, which means the story of Arcane wraps up with this second season. But Arcane is just the first of many stories that we want to tell in Runeterra.”
No spin-off or additional League of Legends adaptations have officially been confirmed yet. The trailer text reads “every ending is a new beginning.” Fans look forward to watching the explosive conclusion to Arcane this November and whatever they are planning for the future.
