During a recent chat with People, Elton John hinted that he might have played a role in reuniting John Lennon with Yoko Ono.
In his new documentary, ‘Elton John: Never Too Late,’ John looked back on his career and shared memories with some famous friends, including Lennon, Ono, and Andy Warhol.
“I was probably the catalyst of John and Yoko getting back together,” he referred to Lennon’s appearance at John’s Thanksgiving Day 1974 concert at Madison Square Garden. “If I hadn’t told him to do the show, maybe he had never met Yoko again,” John continued.
“Of course, they did get back together and they had Sean [Lennon]. He became in love again, and so his wildness, he kind of stopped the drugs, stopped the craziness. I was happy for him,” he added.
John also shared that Lennon found love again and that his ‘wildness’ faded over time. According to John, Lennon stopped doing drugs and calmed down, though he joked that he himself didn’t give up all the crazy stuff.
John Lennon and Yoko Ono first met in London in 1966. They got married three years later, in 1969 but split up in 1973. During this time, Ono focused on her career. The couple got back together in 1974 after about 18 months apart, and in October 1975, they welcomed their son Sean.
‘Elton John: Never Too Late’ will premiere on Disney+ on December 13, 2024
