Beginning with WandaVision, the first Marvel Studios series developed for Disney+, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been steadily expanding, and thus further complicating its timeline. Agatha All Along is the highly anticipated spin-off to WandaVision, but according to producer Mary Livanos, it won’t be the only series with ties to WandaVision. She confirmed that a series featuring Paul Bettany as Vision is in the works, while revealing it will pick up after the events of WandaVision.
Agatha All Along follows the return of Kathryn Hahn as Agatha Harkness, the evil witch who was the surprise antagonist in WandaVision, going up against Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch. In her series, Agatha finds herself powerless after a suspicious teen witch breaks her free from a spell. The two join forces to assemble a coven powerful enough to take on the Witches’ Road, a legendary series of magical trials. Speaking to ComicBook about the upcoming release of Agatha All Along, Livanos teased her involvement in the Vision show that’s currently being referred to as Vision Quest:
“I think it’s been announced that Vision Quest is in development. So I’ll be lucky and thrilled to be back on that. Very early days though. But we’ll pick up after the events of WandaVision as well.”
The ending of WandaVision saw White Vision, a synthetic reconstruction of the original Vision (also played by Paul Bettany), gain the memories of its predecessor and fly off to unknown places, likely needing time and space to understand everything it learned. Vision Quest will presumably follow White Vision’s journey as he searches for his purpose in life and the forces that conflict with that mission.
James Spader Is Back as Ultron for Vision Series
Few details are known about Vision Quest, but it was announced that James Spader is set to appear as the series’ villain, reprising his role as Ultron from 2015’s Avengers: Age of Ultron. Vision seemingly killed Ultron, but the film cutting away from the fatal blow left room for doubt about the character’s demise, and hope for fans to see him again onscreen. Ultron’s return after more than a decade-long absence from the MCU potentially opens the door for the return of other characters presumed to be dead, especially ones closely associated with Vision.
The fate of fan-favorite character Wanda Maximoff has been hanging in the balance since her appearance in 2022’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which ended with her sacrificing herself to save the multiverse. Since then, her presence in the MCU has lingered. In the official trailer for Agatha All Along, Agatha is seen inspecting a toe tag on a body in a morgue, and the name “W. Maximoff” mysteriously appears in red ink.
Despite a potential return of the Scarlet Witch, nothing concrete has been revealed. Fans were left angry and disappointed after the Marvel Studios panel at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con failed to reveal an announcement for a long-rumored and much hoped-for standalone Scarlet Witch film. But in the current Marvel era filled with far-reaching cameos, no one is ever truly dead and gone. Audiences can tune in on September 18th for the premiere of Agatha All Along to see if this continues to be the case.
