In a recent chat with Rolling Stone, David Gilmour discussed possibly selling the Pink Floyd catalog, but not for financial reasons.
“To be rid of the decision making and the arguments that are involved with keeping it going is my dream,” the rocker said while hinting at the ongoing drama he’s had with former bandmate Roger Waters. “I am not interested in [a catalog sale] from a financial standpoint. I’m only interested in it from getting out of the mud bath that it has been (going) for quite a while.”
The ‘mud bath’ is likely a reference to his long-standing issues with Waters. In 2023, Gilmour called Waters a ‘misogynistic, antisemitic, Putin apologist,’ and this is just one example of their decades of tension and conflict.
Pink Floyd first looked into selling their catalog in 2022, but the discussions fell apart due to internal feuds and Waters’ inflammatory comments. This made potential buyers hesitant. The Financial Times reported that the catalog could be worth around $500 million if a deal were to go through.
While these talks are on hold, Gilmour has been concentrating on his new solo album, ‘Luck and Strange.’ He has described it as ‘the best album I’ve made since 1973 when ‘The Dark Side of the Moon’ came out.’
