Marvel Television has dropped a new trailer for its upcoming spin-off series, Agatha All Along, on Disney+. Agatha All Along continues the story of Agatha Harkness (Kathryn Hahn) after her defeat in the WandaVision finale by Avengers Wanda Maximoff/ Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) and Vision (Paul Bettany). The new trailer features brand-new footage from the show. These additions offer more clues and pose more questions about the highly anticipated return of everyone’s (second) favorite Marvel witch. You can watch the trailer below.
Kathryn Hahn reprises her Emmy-nominated role as Agatha Harkenss. In theWandaVision finale, Agatha is left powerless and trapped under Wanda’s spell. Without her magic, Agatha must assemble a coven of witches and embark on a dangerous quest to the Witches’ Road. Almost like a twisted version of The Wizard of Oz, the road presents travelers with a series of trials, and should they survive the test, grants them what they are missing most. For Agatha, it is assumed this would be her power. However, fans will have to watch to find out what her ragtag coven members all seek to gain at the end of the road. That ’70s Show’s Debra Jo Rupp reprises her role as Mrs. Hart in the show. New characters include Heartstopper’s Joe Locke as “Teen”, Rio Vidal (Aubrey Plaza), Lilia Calderu (Patti Lupone), Jennifer Kale (Sasheer Zamata), Alice Wu-Gulliver (Ali Ahn) and more.
New Details from the Agatha All AlongTrailer
Locke opens the trailer with new dialogue and details. Locke stars as “Teen”, a mysterious goth super fan who seeks out Agatha. The trailer confirms that it was “Teen” who released Agatha from Wanda’s distortion spell. This is a huge development as fans now know “Teen”, while still a novice, can successfully perform magic.
Fans have speculated about the real identity of this character. Most now believe Locke is playing a version of Billy Kaplan aka Wiccan, the son of Wanda and Vision. The trailer unveils another clue behind the mystery identity. As the character introduces himself to Agatha, a cursive letter “M” covers his mouth. This magic shields his identity from her, which explains his lack of a name. It’s unclear what the cursive letter “M” stands for, but fans have a suspicion.
Many Marvel Comics fans are expecting that the letter could stand for Mephisto, with the character having been rumored for many years now. Mephisto is one of the most powerful villains in Marvel Comics, and has a connection to Scarlet Witch. However, showrunner Jac Shaeffer confirmed Mephisto was never intended to be the WandaVision villain. WandaVision was a self-contained story that explored Wanda’s grief and trauma after the events of Avengers Endgame. Schaeffer defended the decision as the story didn’t need a big villain, and rather than building one, they spent time unpacking Wanda’s poignant emotional journey.
Now, Agatha All Along will bring Agatha’s story into the spotlight. The trailer offers a glimpse at more of Agatha’s origins. Initially introduced in WandaVision as ‘Agnes’ the nosy neighbor, offering comedic relief, Harkness was revealed to be a centuries-old witch dating back to the colony of Salem. Hahn told Rolling Stone that she and Schaeffer were aligned on how they wanted to unravel Agatha’s story.
“Our wishes aligned. I wanted [Agatha] to not lose her acerbic nastiness. I wanted to actually see what lies beneath that weird, hard, mean shell. Also to have some music, keep the camp up.”
A moment from her backstory was briefly shown in WandaVision Episode 8, “Previously On”, as viewers watched her betray her coven and steal their magic. This event is one of the reasons why she was so powerful, before Wanda stripped her of her magic. It seems, however, losing her powers won’t stop Agatha from causing a rumpus with her wicked schemes. Locke’s character reveals Agatha to be the only witch to have ever survived the Witches’ Road. However, in the trailer we hear the witches in her new coven already questioning if they can trust her. Will Agatha repeat her past transgressions and betray her new coven in Agatha All Along? Fans can’t wait for the series premiere on September 18.
