A 2006 interview with David Gilmour has resurfaced.
In 2005, Waters, Gilmour, Nick Mason, and Rick Wright reunited and performed together as Pink Floyd for the first time in over 24 years. This event took place at the Live 8/Make Poverty History concert in London’s Hyde Park.
During this interview with Music Radar, the Pink Floyd rocker was asked if he would consider reuniting with Roger Waters. In his words, he doesn’t have any intentions to go back to that time:
“I have great pride and affection for most of my Pink Floyd career. Musically and artistically it was very satisfying. But it’s the past for me. Done it. I don’t have any desire to go back there.”
He then discussed his relationship with Waters:
“Doing a tour without making a record would just be doing it for the money. And thinking about making a new record with all of us, including Roger, I just don’t think that would work. Roger and I have had too long being horrid little despots. I just don’t think it would make me a happier human being. Sorry, I’ll pass on it.”
It’s safe to say Gilmour still stands by his word since the band never toured again after this interview.
Gilmour And Waters’ Relationship Today
Though their relationship looked good back then, the duo have been feuding nonstop today.
Even though they’ve been throwing shade at each other for a while, in a 2019 Rolling Stone interview, Waters said that he and his old bandmate had a sit-down to hash things out. Waters even had a peace plan ready to roll during their chat. But it backfired.
The last time the two bandmates had spoken was two months before the interview. Waters went on to reveal whether the meeting had a positive or negative outcome:
“We spoke in June. We had a big meeting where I came up with a big peace plan that has come to nothing, sadly.”
Fans were also hopeful for a positive outcome, but things didn’t go as planned. Waters continued:
“I bet all Pink Floyd fans are sorry to hear that. They all hoped that we could kiss and make up and everything would be wonderful in a cozy, wonderful world. Well, it wouldn’t be all that cozy or wonderful for me, because I left Pink Floyd in 1985 for a reason. The reason being that I wanted to get on with my work.”
Later came Waters’ antisemitism claims and Gilmour’s support for it. Gilmour retweeted a post from the ‘Campaign Against Antisemitism’ about the documentary ‘The Dark Side of Roger Waters.’ The documentary reportedly discusses allegations of antisemitism against Waters. Gilmour shared the documentary to remind fans of the singer’s comments.
So, it seems like neither a reunion nor a stable relationship is possible.
