Linkin Park’s countdown didn’t reveal anything, and fans are mad about the ‘dumb’ marketing move.
After the countdown ended, the screen showed glitchy numbers, then reset to 00:00:00 and started counting up. Fans were frustrated and called it a troll. At 00:09:05, the clock glitched for ten seconds before going back to normal.
“Okay, if you teased an announcement date… but it’s actually just revealing an actual announcement date… this is the dumbest, most unfriendly to fans reveal strategy of all time,” a fan wrote on X.
Another one also noted, “This is shaping out to be one of the dumbest marketing moves of all time…” “Starts at 00:00:05. Ends at 00:00:09. 9/5?” one other person said.
Another commenter added, “I was extremely invested. Even had it marked on my calendar. After this blue balls finale I officially don’t even care. My consciousness has just completely lost interest.” “September 5th! Let’s go!” one other individual wrote.
There are still rumors about a new Linkin Park singer. Some people think Deryck Whibley from Sum 41 might be the choice. Sum 41 just teased an announcement, so now more fans think Whibley could be the new singer for Linkin Park.
“Tune in. Wednesday morning Deryck Whibley announcement,” the band said in a statement on X. The countdown ended at the same time as Linkin Park’s. Fans are making connections because Sum 41’s farewell tour finishes in January 2025, so Whibley will be available then.
“Holy f*ckin sh*t he’s the new Linkin Park singer,” a user said. “Welcome to Linkin Park,” another individual added.
Later, Whibley replied to the rumors on social media, writing, “I feel the need to dispel some current rumors. It’s been brought to my attention that many people think I could be joining a reuniting band. But I just want to say, despite popular belief, I am not joining Oasis… or Linkin Park. Or any other band for that matter.”
The frontman continued, “I have my own ‘tour and book’ announcement that I will now move to the end of the week, ahead of [Sum 41’s farewell] U.S. tour. I do look forward to seeing whatever both these amazing bands do in the future.”
Whibley has joined Linkin Park on stage a few times. Fans thought he might be a good fit for the band. He won’t be the new singer, though.
