Johnny Marr replied to fans asking for a Smiths reunion after Oasis got back together for a tour.
“If Oasis can do it The Smiths can too (I’m delusional),” a fan wrote on X. Marr responded by posting a photo of former UKIP leader and MP for Clacton Nigel Farage holding a pint.
Earlier this month, Morrissey’s Instagram post also stirred up rumors about a Smiths reunion with Marr. “I am well aware of The Smiths’ rise in recent years, and their affirmed position in our cultural heritage,” he said sharing a photo of the band from Rockerilla magazine. “It proves how taking risks can work beautifully… and if you don’t take risks when you make music then what the hell are you doing making music?”
The singer then noted, “I am incredibly grateful to anyone who walked out to buy, or who stayed in to download, Smiths’ music. The musicians are considered to be those who make the change, but the consumer plays an equal part by having faith.”
“We’re all in this together,” Morrissey continued. “It was always about a refusal to surrender to enemy propaganda – something I still face today just as much as I faced it in 1983, 84, 85, 86, and 87. The Smiths do not end.”
Both Morrissey and Marr have repeatedly said they won’t reunite. Morrissey has turned down large offers and stated he and Marr are not in contact.
Oasis recently confirmed they will reunite for a 14-date tour in the UK and Ireland in 2025. They won’t be headlining Glastonbury or playing 10 dates at Wembley or the Etihad Stadium.
The concerts will be in July and August, at stadiums in Cardiff, London, Manchester, Edinburgh, and Dublin. Tickets go on sale at 9 am on August 31, with prices announced that day. The tour might also include dates outside Europe later in 2025.
