Denis Villeneuve’s Dune franchise is getting the HBO treatment in the upcoming spin-off series, Dune: Prophecy. HBO has long been at the forefront of TV innovation, completely redefining the capabilities of the medium. One of the network’s most popular series is Game of Thrones. As well as tremendous CGI, a star-studded ensemble cast, and phenomenal battles, Game of Thrones also came complete with one of the most iconic title sequences in TV history, one which fans are now calling for HBO to replicate with Dune: Prophecy. The unofficial petition comes after a fan made their own version of the title cards for Villeneuve’s Dune.
Inventor Headquarters have created their own version of the Game of Thrones title cards, outlining the world in which Dune takes place. The 3D rendered video, complete with a remixed version of Hans Zimmer’s Dune piece “Leaving Caladan,” has completely enamored fans. Jumping between models of the various planets in Dune and showcasing the key factions, Inventor Headquarters released the video in March this year, following Villeneuve’s seminal Dune: Part Two. The fan-made title sequence was incredibly popular upon release, but with the approaching release of the Dune spin-off series, Dune: Prophecy, fans are now calling for HBO to hire Inventor Headquarters to produce the show’s title cards. Dune: Prophecy Comes to HBO This November
Originally titled Dune: The Sisterhood, the new series is set thousands of years before the events of Dune and explores the founding of the Bene Gesserit group. Unlike Villeneuve’s Dune and Dune: Part Two, which are inspired by Frank Herbert’s genre defining Dune novels, Dune: Prophecy is based on Sisterhood of Dune, written by Frank’s son Brian Herbert, and Kevin J. Anderson. Dune: Prophecy follows Valya (Emily Watson) and Tula Harkonnen (Olivia Williams), the founding members of the powerful Bene Gesserit sisterhood. The Bene Gesserit are a powerful force in Villeneuve’s Dune movies, and possess supernatural powers that allow them to control lords and empires from the shadows.
As well as the new series, Dune fans also have Denis Villeneuve’s third and final film in the saga to look forward to. Following the release of Part Two earlier this year, it was uncertain how long audiences would have to wait for the eagerly anticipated conclusion to Villeneuve’s adaptation. For a while, it appeared as though fans would be left twiddling their thumbs for years, as Villeneuve wanted to explore another project before returning for Dune Messiah.
However, it now appears that Villeneuve could already be hard at work on the third installment. Warner Bros. have announced that their next partnership with the Canadian filmmaker will be hitting theaters on December 18, 2026. While the project has not been given a title, fans have strong reason to believe that it will be the long-awaited Dune Messiah movie.
