Glen Powell‘s hot streak will continue with Chad Powers, though he might look a bit different from what fans expect. Summer 2024 might as well be called the Summer of Glen Powell (or the Glenaissance), as he had the dual releases of Hit Man on Netflix and Twisters in theaters, combined with the early part of the year that kicked off with the surprise hit of Anyone but You. Powell feels like the biggest star in the world right now. His next venture is the television show Chad Powers, which is set to debut on Hulu. Powell serves as the series’ producer, co-creator, and co-writer alongside Michael Waldron.
Today, Hulu unveiled the first look at Powell in Chad Powers, and he certainly does not look like the traditional leading man fans have come to know from films like Twisters and Top Gun: Maverick. Based on the Chad Powers character created by Eli Manning for the EPSN+ docuseries Eli’s Places, Powell will play a hotshot quarterback named Russ Holliday who destroys his college football career and, therefore, must disguise himself to join a struggling Southern football team as the talented new player, Chad Powers. It sounds a bit like Eastbound & Down meets Mrs. Doubtfire. Check out the image below:
Glen Powell’s Hot Streak Continues
Chad Powers marks Powell’s return to television. He previously played another Chad, the impeccably named Chad Radwell, on the Fox series Scream Queens from 2015 to 2016. Scream Queens was a breakout role for Powell, kicking off an impressive run that included roles in movies like Everybody Wants Some!! and Hidden Figures. Since then, his star power has grown considerably, and he has had an impressive run of box office hits and critical acclaim, including Top Gun: Maverick. Not only is Chad Powers a return to television for Powell, but it is his second noted screenwriting credit following this summer’s Hit Man. Powell previously wrote a screenplay for an unproduced Captain Planet film that he is still developing.

With decades of acting under his belt, Powell’s apparent overnight success is only possible because of his steady career trajectory.
Chad Powers does not have a set premiere date on Hulu. The series was ordered by Hulu back in February 2024, hot off the box-office success of Anyone but You and the positive buzz surrounding Hit Man. Powell has become an in-demand star. In addition to Chad Powers, he is also set to star in the dark comedy thriller Hungtington from A24, along with Edgar Wright’s remake of The Running Man. He also recently signed on for a lead role in a new top-secret J.J. Abrams movie alongside Jenna Ortega. Powell is striking while the iron is hot, and fans certainly can’t get enough. However, many will likely hope to see Glen Powell with his traditional visage, rather than his Chad Powers makeover.
