In an exclusive interview with Metal Hammer, Nightwish frontwoman Floor Jansen has shared how a tough few years made recording their upcoming album, ‘Yesterwynde.’
“I was pregnant, and before that there was the cancer, and then I had my baby and I was just really, really f*cking tired, so I wasn’t there like I had been in the past,” she revealed. “The connection to the album is much less than it was before because we haven’t been spending as much crazy time together as we usually would.”
Even with her struggles, the singer cares about the album even more than the rest: “That doesn’t mean I don’t give a sh*t – quite the opposite – but I’m still growing into what it means, and what it means to me.”
The album comes after a challenging few years for Nightwish, including the departure of longtime bassist and backing vocalist Marko Hietala and the band’s unexpected decision to retire from touring. However, good news for the singer came when she found out she was cancer-free.
“Great news! I am cancer free,” she wrote in an X post back in late 2022. “The surgery took everything cancerous out and it hasn’t spread! I’ll get local radiation therapy in February to make sure everything stays out.”
Jansen has hinted that the new album will be heavier than before. The band also announced that it will feature 12 new songs and 3 music videos. The album is set to drop on September 20.
